Moving is Over
geoffoliver - January 25, 2006
I'm finally in. I've learned a few things over the past couple weeks...
- Moving will always take longer than expected.
- Driving a UHaul towing a Jeep isn't as hard you'd think.
- The lady at the UHaul place is an idiot.
- BizAtomic was VERY organized!
- Apple + Left Arrow = Back button in Firefox.
- No matter how much money you feed the dryers here, they will not start unless securely closed.
- St. Augustine can be quite dangerous.
- Starting the new job was nowhere near as intimidating as I expected.
- Coldfusion is like programming "lite" - Rufus could learn Coldfusion.
- Traffic lights in Daytona take FOREVER!
- I can't order Dominos after 9 PM because my I have an out-of-area area code.
- Flash can be fun.
- There's a dead port on my wireless router.
- Every third time I order something from BestBuy, it will inevitably be on backorder.
- Rufus loves having carpet in the house.
- One of my neighbors has a very finnicky car alarm.
I'm sure there's more but I can't remember. I had a pretty good list until I hit Apple(maybe) + Left Arrow because my Mac doesn't know how to handle the "Home" key (weak). Instead of going to the beginning of the line, I went back - post lost forever. I vowed at that moment not to post again until I'd written an autosave extension. Well, guess what I finished last night :)
The new job is great. Very relaxed. There's not as many people as I expected but that's probably better anyway. They are
a bit unbelieveably disorganized, though. There are at least 5 places a file may exist. Pretty tough trying to get things done when you can't find anything.
The day after I got moved in (thanks
Justin, DJ, Steve, John, and Frookie) one of my friends
got attacked. Poor guy! Apparently he was at the office of where he works and this guy walks in and asks to use the phone. Justin turns around to help the gentlemen and is greeted with a metal pipe to the head. Justin fought the guy for a little bit, even stopped for a minute to ask him what he wanted. Turns out, the guy wanted his car keys and Justin wasn't going to give up that easy. They fought a little more but eventually, the man with the pipe was the victor - obviously. Justin is, somehow, okay. He got some staples in his head but other than that, he's great. The guy who attacked him, George Washington Clemmons (LOL), has many other warrants out on himself and Justin was told that if/when (hopefully when) they catch the bastard that they're just going to charge him with attempted murder. Awesome.
I found a place down here where I can
ORDER GROCERIES ONLINE! It's the best! I can finally shop the way I want... well, two ways that I want. The first way, obviously, is, FROM HOME! The second is to take my time and look for things that I'd like instead of rushing through the supermarket because it is a terrifying experience. I never spend more than 15 minutes grocery shopping because the market is such an awful place. I'm not sure why people think it's okay to bring their kids to the goddamn supermarket, but it's not.
There is so much more I wanted to write about and I just can't remember what it was. It's been so long since I last posted - I've done/seen/thought about so much over the last few weeks. I really should start making drafts days in advance. Time to go veg in front of the tube. 'night, suckers.
