Recently I purchased a new car from Kuhn Honda/VW in Tampa, Florida. After driving the car for a couple weeks, I had to put it in the shop. While it was being worked on, I was put in a rental car. The extended warranty I purchased for my new car covers a rental car for up to $35 a day. That is where the problems started...
The first rental car they gave me was from Hertz Rental on-site at the dealership. Since I don't have any credit cards, I was forced to put a $100 "refundable deposit" on my debit card. I kept the rental for a couple days and expected that, upon returning the vehicle, I would get my $100 back. A few days passed, and the money was still not in my account.
The next week, I had to put my car back in the shop again. And again, I was put in a rental car. This time, Hertz was closed, so they sent me to Budget Rental. At Budget, I was forced to put an $85 deposit on my debit card. I was told, by the man at the counter that "we don't actually...

I'm out of my sister's house. Got a roommate. Still at the new job - not so "new" anymore. Haven't posted in a while. I've been lazy. I'm going to try and shift the focus of the blog (this site) away from me and more to tech stuff. So let's do that...
I added an extra little feature to the comments a couple nights ago to combat bot spam. There's a new field on the 'Add Comment' form that should be ignored. The tip even says to leave it blank. Somewhat confusing, I know but hopefully it will help prevent the bot posts. There's another new security measure, but I'll keep that a secret ;)
Next is a fun JavaScript problem(?) I ran into today that has to do with variable scope and for loops. Basically, the browser is getting confused between two separate for loops in two separate functions that use the same iterator variable....

After 3 LONG weeks I've finally got all my computers back online! A lot has happened since I moved and I probably won't remember most of it, but I'll try...
The move started out about as shitty as one could imagine. I had to put Kate down the first day I was here. I still miss her. I'd had her since she was born and she was my first real pet. I bought her food, I paid for her vet vists, and everything else a pet owner does. She was the sweetest cat. Unlike her offspring, she never hurt me even when she was playing. She was the best. It was a very tough decision to have her put down but even the vet said that her chances were slim and what would most likely happen is I could drop up to $1,200 and still end up with a dead cat. I cried like a little baby over it but I feel better about it now. I was able to bring her home (Andrea's house) and give her a "proper" burial next to one of Andrea's cats. I'll miss you Kate.
The new job ROCKS! The people...

Screw you, cab company! I've got my own ride, now. Who knows for how long, though. Dave came down on Saturday and helped me out. Thanks, Dave! Everything seems to be running fine now. It's nice to be able to drive places.
My headphones that I've had since 9th grade finally broke a few days ago. I don't think there's any way to fix'm. They had a good run. I'll get some more soon - headphones are cheap.
I still haven't heard back from Apex. That's some headhunter place in Jacksonville. A guy from there called me a couple weeks ago and sounded pretty interested. I wonder if they know I live in Daytona and can't really move.
I saw some crazy candy today. Check out the pictures here and here.

Still cabbin' it to work every day but this guy Eric has been giving me rides home in the afternoon - very cool of him if I might say. I'm not even sure if I'm on his way home or if he's just being nice. Either way, it's greatly appreciated. Saves me $10 a day!
I am so sick of Hawaiian Tropic! It seems like that's all I've been working on for the past two weeks. They're picky bastards, too! Anywhere products appear on the site, they must appear in order of volume (4 ounces, 8 ounces, etc). There are some headers that apparently have four ounce bottles of some sort of tanning concotion but they're supposed to be the eight ounce bottles. Honestly, who is going to notice? I didn't and I had them next to eachother in Photoshop at 300% zoom when I was editing them. The only difference I could see was the caps on the bottles were different sizes. It was so minimal! I barely even noticed it - do they honestly think that visitors to the site are going to notice it?! Insanity, I...

This is some good stuff. Some pictures of this guy's trip but a lot of really great engrish.
I'm finally in. I've learned a few things over the past couple weeks...
Yeah, Windows does some weird stuff but this is equally strange. I got this when I was deleting some files on my Mac today...

It's been a while since my last post.
I finally met Amy. Seems like a really nice girl. She has a great house in a really cool neighborhood. Maybe a block from the water, nice trees. Really great place. We decided on a date that I'd move, everything was starting to work out. When I went back to work three days later, I put in my notice. I Also notified my landlord that I'd would be leaving in two weeks. Two days later, Amy calls and tells me that she's getting another job in TAMPA and the room won't be available anymore. Nine days before I'm leaving, she's telling me, essentially, I'm homeless. I basically had one day to find an apartment because nowhere is open on Sunday and I have to work like hell this last week. I am supposed to start the new job next Tuesday so I need to be down there this weekend. I did manage to find a place and I overnight-ed my application and deposit tonight. With any luck, I'll get in. I was pretty pissed with Amy but it looks like it's...

Lots of stuff...
Week started off learning about a CSS/display bug in Netscape 8. The site I was working on was a fixed width and height centered in the viewport with a scrollable div that contains the primary content. I had to add a "overflow: hidden;" to the BODY tag to prevent IE 5.2 Mac from displaying unneeded scrollbars on the site. Doing that caused random rendering issues within the scrolling div. More often than not, anything inside a P tag would cut off about a half inch below where the P starts. Once in a while, the page would render correctly, but I'd say 90% of the time it was wrong. The content was there, it seemed to be hidden behind something though. If I could select something on the page and drag down, whatever was in the P would scroll! Most peculiar. Removing the "overflow: hidden;" fixed the problem. If anyone else has this problem, I hope this was useful :)

I've done so much on this in the last week. I stayed up until 8:30 AM on Saturday writing code. I have a serious problem :) Hopefully, in the next week I can get an installation script written and people can test it. Let me know if you'd like to help beta test.
So I'm like 95% sure that I'll be taking the job at Zgraph but I still haven't made arrangements for SOMEWHERE TO LIVE! I was supposed to meet Kelly's friend, Amy, last week but those plans fell through. She wasn't at work yesterday so Kelly couldn't get her number. Today, Amy was at work, but for some reason, I still don't have her phone number. I'm not really sure what's going on. I guess that I'll be going to Daytona this weekend with Kelly and Mark to meet her. I don't know how I feel about being stuck in Daytona all night though if Kelly and Mark decide to stay there. I certainly don't want to drive my decrepit old Jeep down there. I don't feel safe going over 55 in that...
